What would Obama do? Better yet, what should Obama do?
If you live anywhere besides under a rock, you know that Barack Obama made history yesterday by becoming the first African American to earn the nomination from a major party. [I'm not sure why the news clarifies major party, because I don't know of any blacks to earn the nomination from an insignificant minor party either.] I'll save that research for future homework...
And don't forget. For the next five months, Obama will battle McCain in a contest that will make history once again. At the end of the knock down drag em out general election, we'll either have our first Black president or the oldest first-term president [1]. (Not to mention the only president who looks like a cartoon character of himself.)
Anyway, all eyes are on Obama to see who he'll pick as his vice presidential second fiddle running mate. For the longest time, I cringed at the possibility that Obama would even consider Hillary Clinton. I was displeased, even bitter (can we use that word again now?) over Hillary's campaign tactics. And with all the denouncements going on during the campaign, why didn't HillBilly ever denounce the radical racists whose votes she happily pocketed (and not-so-covertly) pursued?
But most of my personal bitter objections washed away last night as Obama walked away on the high-road with the nomination nod. I'm no fool. Although I wanted Obama to select a running mate like John Edwards, we know for a fact that Obama and Hillary are vote magnets. Democrats swooped in droves to cast votes for them during the primaries, and I'm not convinced that Hillary supporters will make a good showing without Hillary on the ticket. And I'm not pointing fingers, because I suspect the same of Obama supporters if Hillary had stolen earned the nomination.
As you know, Hillary refused to make a concession speech after Obama earned the nomination (2). She still considers herself in the race. I can only think of three reasons:
1. Hillary wants to bend-snap-shatter the DNC rules (that she agreed to play by) and steal unjustified delegates from Florida and Michigan.
2. Hillary wants to secure Obama's word that he'll welcome her as his vice presidential running mate before she officially bows out.
3. Hillary is just crazy. (You don't think I'd skip this option, do you?)
Either way, I'm wearing the bracelet: WWOD?

I hope he won't choose Hillary. But I don't care who else is on the ticket, as long as it helps him win.

@RawDawg: Thanks :-)
@Buck: I'm still not sold on an Obama/Clinton ticket. I don't think I'll ever be. I always had Edwards in mind... but a recent analysis of the choices proved to me how HUGE this decision (and the pool of potentials) will be for Obama.
But honestly, 8 years of Bush made McCain's life a hard one. Only a staunch tunnel-visioned Republican would vote for McCain. (Oh, and don't forget the hopeless racists).
