I can use DANG in many ways today. And it's only fair to start with my long absence from this blog... DANG!!
I had no idea that my last post was in May. I just knew that after 1000 "D" topics ran through my head, I should mosey over and check on things.
Today's Television "DANG!!" comes from the world of low class reality TV. Just like many who hate to admit it, I fell hopelessly in love with watching ghetto train wrecks courtesy of Flava of L.ove, I Love New Y.ork, and Charm S.chool.
Apparently the BET network is sick of the attention that these shows earn for other networks. And in perfect competitive fashion, BET plans to release the mutha of all low class reality shows: Hot Ghetto Mess.
I am essentially speechless, so I'll direct you to the "What About our Daughters" blog that is tackling the subject of the new show on a daily basis.
In general, I get frustrated with myself when it comes to ghetto reality. On a certain level, I suspect that the guilty pleasure of my watching somehow contributes to the problem. I represent one more person adding to the interest and ratings. And that's the foundation upon which the nonsense grows.
On the other hand, I wasn't a Psych major for nothing. Combine that with my Faith, and you get a woman who is totally fascinated with the human condition and how that "condition" is reflected in individual behavior.
Where do you stand regarding the balance between entertainment and the serious cultural issues that these shows either chronicle or promote?
First, let me say, it's about time you posted. Sheesh! talk about keep a sista waiting *lol* Love the new layout.
Girl, don't even get me started up in this piece about BET and their so-called shows. I find them distasteful, unentertaining, triflin, and downright disrespectful. Gone are the days where the E in B*T actually meant something.
As not to blog up in your comments, I'll keep it short, and that's to affirm your DANG! because that's the nicest thing that can be said about the state of affairs nowadays.
